Ex korean president suicided....

Ex-S. Korean president jumps to his death

Corruption scandal had tarnished Roh's image as a 'clean' politician by MSNBC

SEOUL, South Korea - Embattled former President Roh Moo-hyun — a reformist shamed by a corruption scandal that tarnished his image as a "clean" politician — jumped to his death while hiking in the mountains behind his rural home in South Korea, his lawyer said. He was 62.

Roh was hiking in Bongha village when he threw himself off a steep cliff around 6:40 a.m. Saturday, lawyer Moon Jae-in told reporters in the southern city of Busan. He said Roh left a suicide note.

"Too many people are suffering because of me," he wrote, according to South Korean media.

So sad accident....I actually didn't like him... because during his president, there were so many scandals and economic hardship in korea. But I know he is an outstanding clean politician...

Some korean people said he is a progressive hero who can't survive in dirty korean politics.

  1. May I ask how you can be absolutely certain that Roh was "an outstanding clean politician..." despite the corruption scandal that clouded him? Is it becaus of the fact that he committed suicide, and that a truly dirty politician wouldn't have the balls to kill himself? Just curious...like to hear the thoughts behind your conviction in support of Roh.

  2. I don't know anything about S. Korean politics, but I'm glad you commented on this. How much do you know about Korean politics, Rofucius? I thought your question was interesting. Thanks for opening up a good discussion, you two!

  3. I read an obituary article about Roh in the most current issue of The Economist today. I can see why S. Koreans mourn this leader. I liked what I read about him in the obituary. Suicide is heartbreaking.

  4. you know... as a politic in korea.... it is a poorly undeveloped part.... there are so many corruption such as bribes, misappropriation of public funds... the most famous bribers since beginning of korean government are expresidents, Jeon, another Roh, Kim...
Their misappropriation of public money may be over thousands times than suicided Roh's.
